Concluded his PhD in Cultural History and Mentalities at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2007. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. Integrated researcher at IHC of FCSH of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. It has articles published in scientific and pedagogical journals and in scientific and pedagogical meetings, national and international, in the areas of History, History teaching, and Pedagogy. He has published 12 articles in specialized magazines and 7 works in event proceedings, has 28 book chapters and 13 books published. In his professional activities he interacted with 16 collaborators in co-authorship of scientific works. His areas of research are: Setúbal, Estado Novo, Vocational Training, Salazar, Technical Education, History, History of Setúbal, Republic, Republican Setúbal and Strikes.

ALVES, Jorge Fernandes

Degree in History (1980), Masters in Modern History (1987), PhD in History (1993), Aggregation (2000). Full Professor since January 5, 2007, in the Department of History and Political and International Studies of the Faculty of Letters from the University of Porto. He was Director of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (2007-2010). In the area of research, he has addressed topics in the areas of economic and social history, history of science and political history, presenting more than 250 titles among books, articles in national and international magazines and minutes of meetings. Integrates as a researcher the CITCEM – Center for Transdisciplinary Studies Culture, Space and Memory, of which he was co-founder and the first coordinator (2007).

AMARO, António Rafael

PhD in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC). He is currently Assistant Professor at FEUC where he teaches since 2009. He is also a researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century at the University of Coimbra (CEIS20). He has published several books and dozens of articles in Portuguese and foreign magazines, highlighting the following works Viseu: Roteiros Republicanos (2010) and Economia e Desenvolvimento na Beira Alta: do fim da monarquia à Segunda Guerra Mundial, 1890-1939, (2006).

BRITO, José Maria Brandão de

Economist and professor at ISEG / UTL, where he teaches economics chairs. He is the vice-dean of the Technical University of Lisbon. He was a director of TAP and president of RTP. He was a member of the general councils of UTL and ISEG, and the General and Supervisory Board of EDP. He is a member of several scientific institutions. He collaborates regularly with articles of opinion in written media. He is the author of several books and other works on economics topics.

BRITO, Wladimir

Degree, Master and PhD in Law (specialty Law and Political Science) from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and he is: Professor at the School of Law of the University of Minho and cooperates with the Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra, where he governs disciplines of public law; chairman of the Council of the School of Law of the University of Minho; member of the List of conciliators of the United Nations (Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties of 1961), appointed by the Government of Portugal; director of the journal Scientia Ivridica and integrates scientific committees of scientific journals from Brazil, Cape Verde, Spain and Portugal. He was Vice‐President of the Law School of the University of Minho and Director of the Law Degree of the School and held other positions at that School. He was President of the Congress of the Cape Verdean Board Diaspora. He has published several scientific papers.

CARDOSO, José Luís

Research professor and director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Until 2008 he was full professor of economics and history of economic thought at ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon. He collaborates with several foreign universities as visiting or advisory professor. He is author or editor of several books on the Portuguese history of economic thought from a comparative perspective, with special emphasis on the study of the processes of diffusion and assimilation of economic ideas. His historical essays combine multidisciplinary approaches with contributions from economics, sociology and political science. He has published articles in the main peer reviewed and ISI or Scopus journals in his field of research.

CASTRO, Mariana

Integrated Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC-FCSH/NOVA). Graduated in History and Master in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. At present, she’s developing a PhD thesis in History in the same institution. Her work focuses on the areas of Contemporary Portugal History, Economic and Social History, History of Police Institutions in Portugal, in particular the Fiscal Guard, and History of Contraband during the 20th century. Author of the Master Dissertation entitled Contrabando de Guerra em Elvas durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial (1914-1918), guided by Professor Maria Fernanda Rollo. Participated in several congress organizations; presented papers and published articles, such as “A política de Hugh Dalton e o Bloqueio Económico (1940-1942)” in the Revista História of the Faculty of Arts of Porto (2015).

FERREIRA, Fátima Moura

Master in History of Populations (1993) and PhD in Contemporary History (2005), by the University of Minho, where she is an assistant professor. She is a Researcher at Lab2PT - Landscape, Heritage and a member of the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT). Her research is developed within the scope of the problematic of the relations between knowledge and powers in the process of configuration and metamorphoses of the contemporary State. She is currently preparing a book on jurists. She is the author of O casamento civil e o divórcio 1865-1910: debates e representações (Braga: sn, 1993) and A institucionalização do conhecimento jurídico na monarquia constitucional – the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (1834-1910) (Braga: sn , 2005).

FERREIRA, Nuno Estevão

Researcher at the Center of Religious History Studies mat Catholic University of Portugal since 2010, and and associated professor extraordinary at the School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies, Lusophone University of Humanities and Technology since 2007. He holds a doctorate in social sciences from the University of Lisbon’s Institute of Social Sciences (ICS-UL). His dissertation focused on the role of the Câmara Corporativa no Estado Novo Português (1933-74). He has published on Catholicism and corporatism, including: “A Câmara Corporativa (1935-1974) e as políticas públicas do Estado Novo” in Ler História (2013); “Corporativismo e as Instituições do Salazarismo: a Câmara Corporativa” in Corporatismo em Português: Estado, Política e Sociedade no Salazarismo e Varguismo, Imprensa de Ciências Sociais (2008); Sociologia em Portugal: da Igreja à Universidade, Imprensa de Ciências Sociais (2006).

Master’s Degree in Contemporary History from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. PhD in Contemporary History by the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His research areas are: Political history, political language and political theory of history during the twentieth century; History of Europe in the period between the two world wars; Comparative and transnational history; Study of biographies. Currently working on the project “The transition from left to fascism in Europe in the period between the two world wars. Comparative History and Political Analysis of Discourse”.

FREIRE, Dulce

Graduated in History (1992) from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. At the same university she completed her master’s degree (1998), her dissertation was awarded with the History Award of the Mário Soares Foundation (2000), and her doctorate in Contemporary Economic and Social History (2008). Since 1990, she directs research interests for themes related to rural history and agriculture in Portuguese and Iberian contexts. Has been analyzing policies and institutional framework, social movements, memory, processes of technological innovation and social change. Looking for to develop interdisciplinary researches has participated in different teams of investigation and route to theoretical and methodological instruments that allow to relate written, oral and visual testimonies. She was a research fellow at the Institute of European Studies at the University of California at Berkeley (2001), and has conducted further research stays at the École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2005) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (2006).

GARRIDO, Álvaro

Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and researcher at CEIS20 (Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century of the University of Coimbra). His research project focuses on economic history and institutions, and contemporary maritime history. The themes of corporatism, social economy and maritime economics are central to his work. He has published several books and articles on fisheries in the context of the Portuguese New State and on the nature of Salazarist corporatism. Prepares a research project on the history of the public policies of the sea in Portugal.

LEAL, Ernesto Castro

PhD in Contemporary History at the University of Lisbon, associate professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and researcher at the History Center of the University of Lisbon. It develops scientific works, primarily focused on contemporary Portugal, within the areas of History of Ideas, Political History, History of History and Biographical History. He belongs to the Executive Committee of the Dictionary of History of the I Republic and Republicanism, sponsored by the Assembly of the Republic, to be edited in 2010, within the scope of the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic.

LEAL, Manuel Cardoso 

Degree in Economics from the University of Porto (1966-1971) and postgraduate degree at the VII International Course on European Integration, by Europa Instituut, University of Amsterdam (1972-1973). He developed his professional career as an economist, especially in the sectors of agriculture and fisheries, during which he wrote books and numerous published articles. In 2011, he obtained a master’s degree in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, and in 2016 he obtained a PhD in Contemporary History from the same Faculty with the thesis Rotação do Partido em Portugal. A aprendizagem da alternância política (c.1860-1890). He has published books and articles on Economics and Contemporary History.

MENDES, Francisco Azevedo

Coordinator of the research group “Landscapes, Frontiers and Powers” of CITCEM. Assistant Professor of the Department of History, Institute of Social Sciences, University of Minho. PhD in History, branch of Theory and Methods, in 2007, under the guidance of Jeffrey Andrew Barash (University Jules Verne-Picardie), with a thesis entitled Crisis and passivity in contemporary theory of history. The transformation of the topic of “historiographic coherence”. He is currently involved in a research project on the Supreme Judicial Councils in Portugal (20th century), coordinated by Fátima Moura Ferreira (CITCEM, ICS-UM).

NUNES, João Paulo Avelãs

He holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra (January 2016). He is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary History at the Department of History, European Studies, Archeology and Arts at FLUC. He is an Integrated Researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century of the University of Coimbra and a Collaborating Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. He has investigated and secured advice; taught, guided and evaluated; organized and participated in scientific events; organized and carried out training, workshops and conferences; published books and chapters of books, articles and critical reviews; presented books and magazines on: contemporary history and history of contemporary international relations, history of historiography and historical memory, historical-cultural identities and multiculturality; didactics of History and dissemination of historiography; contemporary material culture and industrial archeology, cultural heritage and museology, organizational culture and marketing/advertising, territorial planning and urban management, leisure and cultural tourism, local and regional development. PINTO, António Costa

Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon and a Guest Professor at ISCTE, Lisbon. He has a PhD from the European University Institute (1992, Florence) and ISCTE (1999). He was a Guest Professor at Stanford University (1993) and Georgetown (2004), and Visiting Researcher at Princeton University (1996) and University of California-Berkeley (2000 and 2010). Between 1999 and 2003 he was a regular Guest Professor at the Institut D’Études Politiques de Paris. He was President of the Portuguese Association of Political Science. His works have focused mainly on authoritarianism and fascism, democratic transitions and “transitional justice” in Portugal and Europe. The longevity of the Portuguese New State led him initially to the comparative study of authoritarian systems. More recently he has been studying the impact of the European Union on Southern Europe. Another topic that has been dedicated is political elites and regime changes. He is the author of more than 50 articles in Portuguese and international academic journals.

PIRES, Leonardo Aboim

Graduated in History, by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon (2015). He currently holds a master’s degree in Contemporary History, preparing a thesis entitled A Junta Nacional de Frutas: corporativismo, desenvolvimento industrial e modernização agrícola no Estado Novo (1936-1974). He is an integrated researcher of the Institute of Contemporary History and has as research areas the history of Portugal in the twentieth century, economic and social history, the history of science and Technologies, the History of institutions and policies; History of corporate regimes. RODRIGUES, Cristina

Graduated in Law (Catholic University), Master in Sociology of Work, Organizations and Employment (ISCTE-IUL), PhD in Sociology of State, Law and Administration (University of Coimbra). She is a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History at NOVA University in Lisbon. She teaches Public Policy Law in the MSc Public Policy of ISCTE -IUL and Health and Safety at Work at Universidade Lusíada. She develops her professional career in the Public Administration, initially in an autarchy and later in the Institute of Social Reinsertion – Ministry of Justice. Since 1996, she has been mainly concerned with labor and employment issues and has held various leadership roles within the Ministry of Labor. She currently co-ordinates the Unemployment Benefit Resources Committee. His research areas are: History of Labor and Syndicalism.

RODRÍGUEZ, Adolfo Cueto

Degree in History from the University of Oviedo. He obtained a master’s degree in History of International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid with his work: La política colonial portuguesa ante el reto de la Descolonziación. He was a Fellow of the National Program for the Training of University Teachers (FPU) of the Spanish Ministry of Education and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He is an integrated researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Nova University of Lisbon and a PhD student at the Department of Contemporary History of the National University of Distance Education (UNED) (Spain), where he develops a work entitled: La política colonial portuguesa del salazarismo al marcelismo: Origen y destino de un ejercicio de resistencia. His works have focused on the processes of colonization and decolonization contemporary of the Iberian State, about which he has published a work titled: El mundo frente a Portugal y Portugal contra el mundo. El expediente colonial portugués y sus efectos sobre la posición internacional lusa (1951-1962), for which it was recognized with the José María Jover Prize of Young Researchers in the History of International Relations. He has also published different scientific articles on this subject. Currently working on the Project: Public Security Police: History and Heritage.

ROLLO, Maria Fernanda

Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. From November 26, 2015, she is the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education of the XXI Constitutional Government of Portugal. Her thematic areas are: History of Portugal in the twentieth century; History of contemporary economics and society; History of engineering; Portugal and European economic cooperation; History of innovation and the organization of science in Portugal.
